Valencia is the Nº1 coastal destination in Europe, according to a survey published by UK non-profit consumer organisation “Which?”.
The survey asked a sample of 3,500 UK travellers to rate 44 different coastal towns and cities across Europe in 12 categories, including accommodation, beaches, seafront or marina, food and drinks, tourist attractions, shopping, entertainment, attractiveness, safety, friendliness, peace & quiet and value for money and Valencia was ranked 1st with an overall rating of 91%.
Valencia received 5-star ratings in seven of the 12 categories and Which? said it was the only Spanish city and one of only four in the whole survey that received a 5-star rating for value for money.
Which? attributed this to the fact that Valencia had everything Barcelona could offer, but was “yet to suffer from over tourism.” By way of example, Which? said Valencia also received a 5-star rating for its beaches, comfortably higher than the 3-star rating that Barcelona received in the same category. Which? said the best beach in Valencia was La Patacona.
The city also received 5-star ratings for friendliness, entertainment, peace and quiet and 4-star ratings in all the other categories.
“Everything you once went to Barcelona for is in our table-topper. A cityscape which swings from honey-stoned old town whorled around a Gothic cathedral, to futuristic buildings of the City of Arts and Sciences development. It’s one of Spain’s leading gastronomy scenes too, and it gained four out of five stars for its food and drink.”
Which? also mentioned the city’s art nouveau central market as a “must visit”.
This is not the first time Valencia has received plaudits as a great place to live in recent times either. Valencia has twice been named the best city in the world to live in by InterNations, in 2020 and 2022. InterNations referred to Valencia as “liveable, friendly and affordable,” going on to say that Valencia also ranked first in the Quality of Life Index.
