“The view is straight down to Denia and the sea and then on the left you’ve got the mountain area as well, so you’ve got all the rock escarpment. It doesn’t matter which way you look you’ve got a great view!”
“We are right beside the national park so we’ve got this rocky scarp beside us and a mountain goat walked down the first night and checked us out… how many times in the UK do you see a mountain goat coming down past your house?”
Adrienne, who works in recruitment and husband John who works in marketing completed the purchase of their villa in April 2024 for €315,000 after what Adrienne described as “a few false starts”.
“We were looking in Italy as well, but the Italians have made it so difficult since Brexit,” Adrienne comments.
Spain on the other hand has “totally adapted with visas and things like that to make it more attractive to ex-pats… and the Spanish are so welcoming,” Adrienne says.
Adrienne and John are taking Spanish classes every week and Adrienne says that the locals really appreciate that you are “giving it a go” and will equally make allowances for you.
“We both feel quite strongly that if you are going to go to someone else’s country, you need to learn the language and embrace the life, otherwise what’s the point?” Adrienne says.
Having spent four summers in a row in Moraira, Adrienne and John finally settled on nearby Denia and the surrounding area and got in touch with HomeEspaña via a UK property portal. After an initial viewing with HomeEspaña in 2023, Adrienne recalls how things went a bit cold afterwards.
“We were busy doing stuff, you know but Sharyn (from HomeEspaña) never forgot us, bless her. Out of the blue we got an email saying ‘look, I know what you are looking for, this place has got a tourist licence, this does this, this does that’ and it absolutely ticked the boxes… And here we are now,” Adrienne says.
The tourist licence was key for the Colemans, as Adrienne says they plan to live in the house in the winter months “when it’s horrible in the UK” and then rent out the villa in summer to families and sports people. Adrienne also confirmed they are working with an agency to manage the summer rental of their property, which was recommended by HomeEspaña.
The property itself has three bedrooms and two bathrooms as well as a separate self-contained apartment with a further two bedrooms and a bathroom. Apart from the spectacular views, the villa boasts a BBQ area and a private swimming pool and is only a 20-minute drive to the vibrant seaside town of Denia.

The Cordingleys say they were not definitely going to buy when they visited HomeEspaña in Valencia but when they saw the house, they fell in love with it.
