Retirees Robert and Brid Ashford had been trying to sell their detached villa in Denia for 18 months when they heard the HomeEspaña advertisement on the local radio station claiming to sell properties within a month.
“I remember coming home and my wife and I both saying, “yeah, right!” But after 18 months and only four visits, the couple said “you know what we’ll do? Let’s ring HomeEspaña.”
Mr Ashford says two days after speaking to Clare Johnston, Sales Director at the HomeEspaña office in Denia, the property was listed and the valuation was €398,000.
Four days later, sales executive Jessica Matzon visited the property and had a video call with her German client.
“They offered us 395.000€ and said they would put down a deposit of 5.000€ if we took the property off the market, which we thought was reasonable,” Mr Ashford said.
The sale of the villa was successfully completed on 27th June and the Ashfords could not be happier. Mr Ashford described the HomeEspaña team as fantastic, professional, kind, understanding and thoughtful and summarised by saying the attention received was “sublime.”
Mr Ashford, who owned a cleaning company, was born in Wales and brought up in England, where he met his wife Brid, a special needs teacher from Ireland. The couple moved to Galway in Ireland where they lived for 35 years, before taking the decision to move out to Spain.
Mr Ashford said one of the main reasons for the move was the healthcare system. “The health care service here is very very good. It’s not perfect, but it is so much better than what you would get in Ireland or England,” he said.
It was precisely due to health reasons that the Ashfords decided to sell their four-bedroom, two-bathroom villa on the Montgó Mountain near Denia in Alicante, after Mr Ashford underwent surgery on his knee and shoulder.
Mr Ashford said they wanted to buy another house closer to amenities and wanted to work with HomeEspaña again. The Ashfords paid a visit to the HomeEspaña office in Denia, where this time they were attended by Office Manager Sharyn Hayward, who Mr Ashford described as “a gem.”
“She said she didn’t have a three-bed, but had a two-bed (that could be converted into a three-bed). Then she said “but it’s not far from the supermarket!” “Each time they knew exactly my needs,” Mr Ashford said.
“I never thought I would want to live on an urbanisation, now I wouldn’t live anywhere else,” Mr Ashford said. “The house is the perfect size for us, very easily maintained and seven minutes from the supermarkets and 20 minutes on foot to where I work – we seldom now use the car.”
The Ashfords ended up purchasing the two-bedroom, two-bathroom semi-detached villa just 500m from two large supermarkets and 1.5km from the centre of Denia town for €290,000 and the deal completed at the notary on the same day as their sale.
“When my wife was asked what she thought of the house, she said it was perfect. And my wife does not use that word,” Mr Ashford said.
“I’ve talked to people, you know, friends, and they say they I’ve never come across somebody being able to sell their house so quickly, find another house so quickly, sign everything so quickly and move in so quickly, without any problems,” Mr Ashford said.
Mr Ashford finished by saying if he ever wanted to buy or sell a house in the future, or knew someone who were in that situation, he would definitely recommend HomeEspaña.

When retired advertising and marketing executives Gill and her husband John from the northwest of England reached the conclusion it was time to sell their holiday home in Dehesa de Campoamor (Alicante), they decided to act on a recommendation from their solicitor and check out HomeEspaña.
