Valencia Voted Best City for Expats in 2024 by InterNations
Valencia, Spain, has reclaimed its spot as the best city in the world for expatriates, according to the 2024 Expat City Ranking by InterNations.
Spain has once again been declared the country with the most blue-flag beaches in the world. This summer, Spain will be able to fly blue-flags at a total of 579 of its beaches, and the region of Valencia, including the Costa Blanca, boasts the highest total, with 129 high-quality beaches.
Blue-flags are awarded to those beaches that meet demands on issues such as hygiene, safety, accessibility and the provision of lifeguards. The blue-flags are awarded by the Association for Environmental Education and the Consumer (ADEAC), Spain has now held the top spot for three decades since the awards began in 1987.
We asked some of our team to pick their beach hotspots:
Costa Blanca South
One of the best parts about living in the Southern Costa Blanca is you are never far from a pristine sandy beach!
Even if you’re not stepping off your front porch directly onto the sand, popular areas such as Villamartin or Los Dolses on the Orihuela Costa are still well positioned, being a short five-minute drive to the beaches at La Zenia, Playa Flamenca, and Cabo Roig, where you can expect lots of fun and atmosphere in the summer, including beach bars and watersports!
La Zenia is a small but busy resort, and is probably most well-known for its two stunning beaches: Cala Bosque and Cala Cerrada. Both these beaches have wonderful white sand and shallow waters, making them ideal for families. Read more about La Zenia >
Cabo Roig also boasts two lovely beaches, La Caleta and Cala Capitan, plus a bustling marina. Read more about Cabo Roig >
Slightly further up the coast, Torrevieja has over 20km of stunning coastline with an abundance of beaches and coves. From beautiful white sandy beaches with crystal clear water to the more adventurous rocky beaches ideal for exploring rock pools.
The warm Mediterranean Sea is extremely inviting and lovely for a relaxing swim or some fun splashing around with the children. All the waters and sand are inspected throughout the year.
If you fancy taking a break from lying on the beach, Costa Blanca and Torrevieja beaches have lots more to offer – you can get active and play some volleyball, take a pedal boat out to sea or do some scuba diving. After enjoying your day in the sun, you can have a drink in one of the numerous bars when the sun goes down and dine on the best Spanish cuisine.
Costa Blanca North
The biggest attraction of owning your own Denia property, has to be its proximity to the coast and its 20km of stunning, mostly Blue Flag beaches. Head north to Playa de las Marinas for lovely, quiet sandy beaches, backed with a range of bars and restaurants. To the south towards Les Rotes there are rocky coves and transparent waters – great for exploring. There are also great facilities for water sports.
Les Deveses beach marks the beginning of the Costa Blanca, as to the north, it borders on the beaches of the Valencian town of Oliva. Read more about Denia >
Further south lies popular Javea, and Arenal Beach. This sandy beach is a favourite with tourists and also features a promenade offering lots of bars and restaurants.
Continuing south you will find La Barraca Cove, a pebble beach with beautiful crystal clear waters, Granadilla Beach and many other beautiful hidden coves and beaches. Javea, like many of the other costal towns on the north costa blanca has a low construction density along its 25km of beautiful coastline. Read more about Javea >
