What can I say about La Zenia that hasn’t been said before? It’s one of the most popular areas on the Orihuela Costa, proving very attractive for holidaymakers, as well as expats choosing to live here permanently. Taking a closer look, it’s not hard to see why…
Everything is practically on your doorstep – sandy Blue Flag and surf beaches, a variety of international restaurants, lively pubs with great food and live music, supermarkets with international and Spanish products, banks and ATMs, hotels and, of course, the huge Zenia Boulevard shopping mall – all within walking distance of each other! Not to mention the proximity to 3 major golf courses and Alicante and Murcia airports – via the N332 or the AP7. What’s not to love?
La Zenia has a international mix of British, Irish, Danish, German, French, Dutch and Scandinavian expats living (and also working) permanently within the community – as well as the smaller, local Spanish population. In La Zenia, international and Spanish residents live side by side, enjoying all the area has to offer. The ‘beachside’ area in particular has a distinctly Spanish feel with small Spanish bars and restaurants. Also, more traditional Spanish type houses and apartments can be found here.
Don’t forget to pop into the HomeEspaña office when you are there! All of our staff live in and around the local areas and can answer any questions you have – as well as finding you the perfect property.
Of course, La Zenia can be busy in the summer months during the holiday season, but those residents we have spoken to said that they enjoy the heightened buzz it brings to the area and consider it a small price worth paying, giving them the opportunity to enjoy living in such a fantastic location.
In general, you are spoilt for choice in the Orihuela Costa when it comes to sandy, Blue Flag beaches. La Zenia beaches are no exception.
Cala Cerrada is the smaller of La Zenia’s two beaches and has been established as an official surf beach by the Orihuela town hall. Here you can enjoy surf lessons, as well a paddle board classes and enjoy the surf all year round.
La Zenia´s main beach, Cala Bosque, offers a bigger beach that is family friendly, and wheelchair accessible. Here on this golden, sandy beach you can rent sun beds and loungers, take a dip in the crystal clear waters and then relax with a drink and a snack from the chiringuito (beach bar).
Not to be missed – the coastal walk stretching from La Zenia to Dehesa de Campoamor – it has beautiful views of the coastal landscape and is a favourite with local walkers.
On the contrary, the area never gives you chance to get bored of it. There are numerous locally organised events going on during the quieter months and there is a real sense of community. Check out Christmas day on La Zenia beach for example!

When retired advertising and marketing executives Gill and her husband John from the northwest of England reached the conclusion it was time to sell their holiday home in Dehesa de Campoamor (Alicante), they decided to act on a recommendation from their solicitor and check out HomeEspaña.

If you are considering selling your property in Spain, it is important to be aware of the latest changes to Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) regulations.
