Resale versus New Build Property in Spain: A Comprehensive Comparison
Whether you’re looking for a holiday home, an investment property, or a permanent residence, one key decision is whether to buy a resale property or a new-build home.
Buying a Costa Blanca holiday home through HomeEspaña means Jason Staines and Aileen Murray now have a way to escape the chilly Scottish winters.
The married couple from Edinburgh both work full-time but say they’ll use their three-bedroom duplex in Playa Flamenca as much as possible, including for long weekends.
They also plan to invite friends and family to stay with them, including Jason’s two children, aged 17 and 21.
Jason and Aileen completed their purchase in September 2016, after finding their property during a viewing trip in July.
“We wanted a home in Spain and looked at various areas in October 2015,” said Aileen. “When we went over in July we had a very disappointing viewing with another agent and thought we’d have to return home to arrange more viewings. But over lunch a friend recommended HomeEspaña, so we spoke with them and the following morning managed to do about five viewings with their agent Jamie. Two hours later, we’d had an offer accepted on our property!”
The couple’s duplex, which came partially furnished, is on a small gated community with a large communal pool. Before viewing it, they had never been to Playa Flamenca, but had spent a night in nearby Cabo Roig.
Added Aileen: “We found HomeEspaña extremely helpful. Jamie took a note of our criteria and even included a property that needed some work in our viewings, to help give us a good all-round idea of the market. He was extremely knowledgeable of the local market and there was absolutely no sales pressure at all.”
HomeEspaña put Aileen and Jason in touch with all the necessary parties to complete their purchase and also helped with the after-sales process, which included referring them to a local builder.
“What really stood out was the efficiency of the service,” concluded Aileen. “I think Katherine there actually came into work specially on a Saturday afternoon to meet with us. HomeEspaña really went the extra mile.”
Playa Flamenca is a friendly residential area on the popular Orihuela Costa. Torrevieja is just 10 minutes away by car, while Alicante Airport is around 40 minutes and Murcia San Javier Airport just 20 minutes.
Playa Flamenca has two main beaches, but those at Punta Prima to the north and Cabo Roig to the south are also easy to reach. While Playa Flamenca has bars, restaurants and every type of amenity you might need, mainly in its own Playa Flamenca Commercial Centre, another attraction is its proximity to the La Zenia Boulevard shopping centre, which has international designer outlets, and three great golf courses at Villamartín Golf, Campoamor Golf and Las Ramblas Golf.
Whether you’re looking for a holiday home, an investment property, or a permanent residence, one key decision is whether to buy a resale property or a new-build home.
Whether you’re seeking a second home, a retirement haven, or an investment opportunity, understanding the differences between regions can help you make the right choice.
