We sold our apartment in Tenerife for the same price we bought a villa in Los Dolses
London couple Terry and Debra Ashley were looking to buy a larger house in Tenerife when one of their two sons asked: “Have you seen the value for money in the properties on mainland Spain?”
They very quickly found HomeEspaña via the popular TV series A Place in the Sun and the rest as they say is history. Terry, who organises large-scale international music events but is now semi-retired and Debra, a child psychologist, completed the purchase of their new villa in Los Dolses, South Costa Blanca in April this year for €282,500 and Terry couldn’t be happier.
The three-storey villa has three bedrooms and two bathrooms and boasts a beautiful private swimming pool and a sun terrace on the top level with stunning views of the valley and Mediterranean coastline. The property is also walking distance from a whole host of shops, bars and restaurants and just a short drive to blue-flag beaches and several golf courses.
“We were looking at the same calibre of property in El Médano (Tenerife) and the budget would have been €1,000,000,” he says “We didn’t need to sell our apartment in Tenerife, although we just have and for the same price it cost us to buy this villa! So yeah, happy days!”
The couple viewed three properties with HomeEspaña in February this year and ended up falling in love with the second one they saw.
“It was actually at the bottom of the list, but when we saw it, it was perfect and we really liked the area (Los Dolses),” Debra says. “We decided about an hour after we looked at it.”
While the property is perfect as it is, the Ashley’s now have enough funds to leave their own stamp on it and plan to carry out some renovations this year.
“Debra is going to see out the last term of this school year, but we are gearing up to move out to Spain permanently,” Terry says. “I just need a place to chill. The stress of organising international events is beyond belief,” he says.
Regarding the buying process with HomeEspaña, Debra says it couldn’t have been better.
“The support that we got from Jamie, Helen and Lisa in the office was spot on. We didn’t have to worry about anything at all. The aftersales service was amazing! The attention to detail was second to none,” Terry says. We just felt nothing was a problem. That is what impressed us.”
