Property in rural Spain has a real pull for many people – Real de Montroi is a municipality of the Ribera Alta, located in the Valencian province. Its main economy is farming and agriculture. Here they mainly grow oranges as well as other fruits and vegetables including olives. Wine is also made here by the local cooperative. The livestock farming includes cows, sheep, pigs and poultry. This small town is close to Monserrat, Dos Aguas, Llombay and Montroy, and approximately 30 kilometres from Valencia City.
There is plenty of interest in Real de Montroi including the Castillo de Alcalá dels Alcalans which is the remains of a Muslim castle or perhaps a watch tower which sits on the top of a hill. The parish church was erected in 1587 in Gothic style, though it has since undergone many additions and there is also the popular Rahal Park, a place frequented by people of all ages and nationalities.
Real de Montroi has its share of fiestas – in early July a fiesta in honour of St. Peter the Apostle is held, celebrated with dances and processions. Fallas is celebrated a week earlier here than in Valencia. This includes parades, where people dress in traditional dress and parade through the town. Food is an important part of the festival and of course the burning of the Fallas on the last night.
A typical dish of the area (which may not be to everyone’s taste!) is the Real Paella. This is Paella made using donkey meat and it is often accompanied by a local anis drink and a good cigar.
If you are looking at country property in Spain, Real de Montroi is a peaceful retreat, but with all the amenities you need for day to day living on your doorstep and the exciting city of Valencia only around a 25-minute drive away. We have townhouses and villas, some with pools, for sale in this lovely part of Spain.
