Resale versus New Build Property in Spain: A Comprehensive Comparison
Whether you’re looking for a holiday home, an investment property, or a permanent residence, one key decision is whether to buy a resale property or a new-build home.
Leighton and Susan Dobbs found and secured their holiday home in Orihuela Costa the first time they visited the area, thanks to assistance from HomeEspaña.
The South Wales couple, who have adult children, got the keys to their two-bedroom townhouse in Playa Flamenca in April 2018. They first visited the property during a trip to Spain in February that year, when they stayed in Benidorm. They’d been thinking about buying a holiday home in Spain for some time, so while there they arranged to view properties
“We’d made contact with agents via the internet before our trip,”said Leighton. “Wim from HomeEspaña called and invited us to view some properties around Cabo Roig and Playa Flamenca. So, we drove down and really liked the area – it was our first time there, having previously been to the Costa del Sol and Benidorm. We liked one of the properties we visited with Wim, so before we returned home we agreed a purchase price of €108,000 and paid a deposit.”
Gloria from HomeEspaña then assisted the Dobbses with the buying process, referring them to a currency transfer firm and independent lawyer, to whom they appointed power of attorney.
“We can’t praise Gloria enough,” added Leighton. “When we came out to Spain after completion it was a Sunday and the HomeEspaña office was shut. But she ensured we could get into our new home by leaving the keys in a key safe.”
Leighton and Susan’s two-storey house, which came furnished, is on a small complex with a communal pool. They have a solarium, as well as a garden area and terrace at the front.
“We especially liked the layout and the way it was decorated,”said Leighton. “We like being near the beaches and La Zenia Boulevard, and we can walk to all amenities, including shops, restaurants and cafés.”
The couple envisage using their Spanish holiday home at least two or three times a year, and they will let their children enjoy it too.
