[spacer height=”20px”]Edward and Ann O’Donnell can look forward to escaping the UK’s cold, wet winters, thanks to HomeEspaña helping them find their perfect home in the sunny Costa Blanca.
The retired couple from Bristol completed the purchase of their two-bedroom townhouse in Orihuela Costa in August 2017, after reserving it during a viewing trip a few months prior. They agreed to a purchase price of €175,000, which included furniture.
“We came out and stayed in Torrevieja for a couple of weeks in May 2017,” said Edward. “We were fairly open-minded and must have seen around 20 properties up and down the Costa Blanca, including as far north as Dénia. We saw an equal number of resales and new-build or off-plan properties but we decided we preferred resale homes, as they felt more individual.”
“The property we bought was actually the third one that HomeEspaña showed us. They were really helpful during our viewings, offering us info when we requested it without ever pushing us. Then they assisted during the purchase, maintaining contact with us throughout the 12-week process and beyond.”
The O’Donnells, who have four children and four grandchildren, began their hunt for a Spanish home in 2016, having thought about buying for more than five years. However, they ditched their plans when the Brexit vote happened, an event that coincided with their first viewing trip to the Costa Blanca.
“Then over the winter we thought you only live once and decided to start looking again, Brexit or no Brexit. In fact, since we’ve bought, our plans have changed a bit. We initially thought our Spanish property would be a second home, somewhere to come to over the winter, but after spending a couple of months there when we first got the keys, we’re now thinking about being there more permanently.”
The couple’s townhouse is part of a small community in the popular resort of Cabo Roig. The two bedrooms are on the ground floor, but on the first floor is a large terrace with separate room that could also be a bedroom. At the front, reached via a private gate, there is a south-east facing terrace and small garden, and to the rear another terraced area. They have access to communal pools and landscaped garden areas, while Cabo Roig’s Cala Capitán beach is just a minute’s walk away.
Added Edward: “HomeEspaña’s on-going assistance and support since completion really has stood out. For example, they’ve helped us find an electrician to upgrade our electrics, someone to clear away stuff for us as well as a builder who has turned out to be top-notch.”
