Resale versus New Build Property in Spain: A Comprehensive Comparison
Whether you’re looking for a holiday home, an investment property, or a permanent residence, one key decision is whether to buy a resale property or a new-build home.
Sports fans Suzy Moore and Anthony Cerquone can start enjoying regular fixes of the Costa Blanca’s healthy lifestyle, now that they’ve purchased a home there through HomeEspaña.
The couple, who live in Switzerland and have four children between them, got the keys to their two-bedroom terraced house in Denia in August 2019. They viewed the property for the first time in June, when their offer of €165,000 was accepted by the vendor.
“We made the decision to start looking in Spain in March and arranged a couple of visits to the northern Costa Blanca,” said Suzy, who is Irish. “We’d both been to Denia once before and with the help of HomeEspaña, especially Liam, Sharyn and Marty, we saw about 15 properties. When they showed us our place – we fell in love with it at first sight and within half an hour had made our offer! For now, the property is a holiday home, but we are weighing up plans for a permanent move there in the next two to three years. Doing it this way means we can check that it is right for us.”
Suzy and Anthony’s two-storey house is in the Cabo del Sol urbanisation. It has access to two communal swimming pools, one right outside their front door making it convenient for keeping an eye on the children. The ground floor includes a kitchen, a living and dining room with sea views, and a bathroom with shower. The first floor includes a family bathroom and two bedrooms, including the master one that has a balcony and wonderful views of Dénia and the sea.
The couple found the combination of Dénia, with its outdoorsy lifestyle and traditional Spanish feel, and the property’s quieter location on the edge of the resort especially appealing. “The town itself is a five-minute car or scooter ride away,” continued Suzy. “This is perfect for us as it allows us to enjoy all of the benefits of Dénia without the hustle and bustle of it. We love being by the sea and being outdoors, whether we’re running by the sea, exercising on the beach, playing padel tennis, swimming or cycling. Of course, the weather is wonderful and the scenery is pretty, especially with the Montgó mountain. And Dénia is accessible to larger cities, like Valencia, for day trips.”
Suzy and Anthony are grateful to HomeEspaña for their help finding and buying their property. Added Suzy: “They were great, and not only with setting up and coordinating viewings, but they were helpful with the buying process. And we especially liked how Liam took the time to show us the area a little and made great suggestions for activities, and bars and cafés.”
Built around an old port and with one of the region’s most impressive marinas, Dénia is the most northerly resort in the Costa Blanca and also one of the region’s largest towns. Boasting 15 kilometres of sandy beaches and a year-round population, it’s just an hour from airports at Alicante and Valencia. It also has direct ferry services to the Balearic Islands. A popular area for lettable beach homes is Las Marinas, while larger budgets might stretch to a luxury villa on Montgó mountain.
Whether you’re looking for a holiday home, an investment property, or a permanent residence, one key decision is whether to buy a resale property or a new-build home.
Whether you’re seeking a second home, a retirement haven, or an investment opportunity, understanding the differences between regions can help you make the right choice.
